My Trip To DC ~ Pt 1

Whew! What a whirlwind three days! I’m stiff, sore and my feet still hurt, and I haven’t felt this gratified in a long time.

Sunday morning, Devon and I headed out to Walter Reed. (She is in the midst of transferring up here to Ft Belvoir and had a couple of days free before having to process in.) We were to meet up with TankerBabe, Concrete Bob, Gunnutt and Ma Bell (Taco’s Mom) at the Mologne House to gather up the guys from of the Second-503rd BCT from the 173DABN, to take them to Dave and Busters for lunch and games. Now there are several examples of the Finest this country is blessed with. Terrific group of young men! They are from the units that TankerBabe and many others have been awesomely supporting this past year in Afghanistan.

We had a great lunch and afterwards, the guys took off in all directions to hit the games. Devon took up with the ones playing pool. She’s pretty darn good. (Hmmm ~ what did you really do Friday nights during High School when I thought you were over at your girlfriend’s house…kidding! …sort of….)

The guys were kind of shy in the beginning but didn’t stay that way for long. With TB, MB and CB around, there was no way any of them could stay low-profile. Talk about a force to be reckoned with!

We stayed for hours, talking and laughing and eating! (If you ever get to Dave and Buster’s, have the Bavarian Cream cake ~ omg, it was good!)

You can see the rest of the photos here.

To sit with this group of Soldiers was nothing less than totally inspirational. Some of them have been at Walter Reed for quite awhile already and others will be as they continue heal. Go to TankerBabe’s site to read more about them and what they are doing in Afghanistan. It isn’t a picnic in any way, shape or form. Down to the last one, they wish they could be back with their unit.

You can read Concrete Bob’s post here.

God, I am so proud of them!!

Which is why the next two days were rather emotional for me as we took on the Hill. I still choke up as I look at the photos of these heroes I was honored to get to know, if only briefly, who are being used as political hockey pucks by the elitist ‘wunderkind’ sitting in the House and Senate. Why can’t they get it? The ‘illustrious elected’ seem to have forgotten on whose backs they have achieved their “status” and the privileges they are blessed with. And they have definitely forgotten that they work for us ~ the citizens of the country they took an oath to serve.

Gathering of Eagles at the Capitol next. Charge!

Yankeemom, thank you so much what an awesome post. I loved the photos and thank you for sharing about your trip. One of Uncle’s was at Walter Reed years ago and I know what it means to get support while our troops are there.
