Ranking Member Lewis: “Congress Must Complete its Work on a Clean Supplemental”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), today called on his colleagues in the House and Senate to pass a clean supplemental spending bill as soon as possible, and to continue to work on this vital funding legislation until it is completed.
“We are down to the wire to pass funding for our troops. It would be morally unconscionable to allow these men and women to go without paychecks and housing benefits and simply because the Democrat leadership refuses to pass a responsible funding bill that the President can sign,” Rep. Lewis said.
“Congress must complete its work on a clean, responsible supplemental free of add-ons and veto-bait and it must be done soon. We would do well to take a cue from the relentless efforts of our men and women in uniform and keep working until our job is done – regardless of existing Congressional schedules – to get a clean troop funding bill to the President,” Lewis continued.
The Senate is expected to begin consideration of the war supplemental spending bill today. The House version passed last week but lacked funding for the Department of Defense, included many extraneous spending and policy provisions, and garnered the promise of a veto from the President.
Rep. Lewis has introduced H.R. 6026, a clean supplemental spending bill that provides adequate funding for our troops. If the Democrat leadership of both chambers allowed this bill to be considered, it could pass quickly through Congress and be signed into law by the President.

June 15th is the cut off date for our troops being paid. No money, just political BS. These (oh, it’s so hard not to say bad words….) idiots are playing with our troops lives and they don’t seem to give a rat’s patootey about it. Actually, at this time, I’d go with the rat.

I think the Congress and Senate’s paychecks should be withheld . They sure as heck aren’t doing anything helpful or positive or beneficial. Or their job.

I wonder just how much room is being added in hell these days? Gotta be a lot.
I wonder what any of the Congress would say to a single mom who is deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq when she doesn’t have enough money to send home to make sure her child/children have food and basic necessities? It’s one thing that our military is paid so little to start with. It’s another that the money mongers would even consider withholding pay from ANYONE in a war zone or wearing our nation’s military uniforms YET go on their bloody MEMORIAL DAY break without funding our military. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
And I DON’T mean to fund the military by adding all the useless and worthless pork much less the TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE ILLEGAL alient nonsense. (Yes it IS difficult to keep it clean).
There should be a law (no way in hades it will happen since we know who would have to pass the law) that if ONE Federal employee’s pay is withheld ALL Federal employees pay is held - INCLUDING ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS. This is just total BS.
You know Pelosi was in Baghdad recently. PM Maliki didn’t meet with her. I guess even he recognizes the enemy better than many Americans do.
I am SICK and TIRED of our military being used as they are. I am SICK and TIRED of the gutless population of the nation I love and cherish so much. When will more people stand up against this? WHEN?

Correction - it seems Maliki did meet with Pelosi before she left. First accounts I read were that he had not. Now I’m reading that he did.

Leta ~ I’m sitting here watching the WH Budget Director, Jim Nussle, field questions from the press. Argghhh! It’s clear that they do not want to hear what the President has to say. I have to say he is doing a good job handling the moronic questions.
He stated that he sees the Democratic majority Congress holding the troops hostage to get their domestic pork. Bravo!
The Farm Bill was vetoed. Heh
The Senate spent the whole morning in a tribute to Lyndon B Johnson - this being the 100th anniversary of his birth. Pressing item indeed.
People wonder why I put myself through this. It’s my money they are so glibly spending and my guys and gals they are screwing. I like to know exactly whom to contact with my “what are you doing??” questions.
