**Sigh** amiga…that is soooo true. My grandchildren, ages 12 through teens, have almost NO knowledge of this nation’s great accomplishments and her past hero’s over the past 60 years or so. When I recently asked one of them about “Pearl Harbor” and the 2nd World War, I was answered with a blank stare, and it’s NOT because they are stupid or don’t pay attention, these things are not taught in schools anymore. Ask them about “Idol” (which we do not watch) and they can tell you every little detail. Then, after asking some other questions, they will go on to tell you how bad we Americans are and all the bad things we have done for the past 250 years. Our school systems here in upstate NY are inundated with liberal teachers and administrations.
BTW YankeeMom, I presently have a post up regarding a very worthwhile project I’m heavily invloved in regarding our fine young Military women and men. I would appreciate it, if after reeading it, if you agree, please put a link, or a trackback to it on your blog so we can get the word out to as many folks as possble.

Hey YM! We just had some big local elections here yesterday. Me thinka our Board of Supervisors will now be going down the Santa Cruz pink/yellow-brick-road-path.Oh joy. This is going to be an interesting four years. Don’t ya miss CA?! My caution to family and friends for this past year has been “get ready for the Carter years again!” Seems to be moving that direction for sure. But always remember friend, what followed the mess (on every level!) Carter made, was Regan. My daughter just got a new license plate holder for her car. It says, “AMERICA WILL SURVIVE”. I like it.

Hey Donna! Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your elections! No, I do not miss CA one Iota - esp. Santa Cruz. We still have to deal with people there for business purposes and always it turns into an ORDEAL!! Oh, the whining that goes on there.!!
Love your daughter’s license plate. Yes, we will survive this. The annoying squeaky lib wheel is getting the attention now but I firmly believe the pendulum will swing back once folks are hurting enough. Sad that it takes such an extreme situation to wake people up.

Jack Murtha and John Kerry were both Vietnam veterans, just I should point it out, and they have, probably, a *lot* of combat experience.
Kerry has a Silver Star and several confirmed combat kills, including the real name of a real (now deceased) NVA operative named Nguyen Thi Tuoi (see page 79 of Al Franken’s “The Truth- With Jokes”), who was not a loin-clothed, unarmed teenager, but rather a fully grown man in his mid 20’s who was an NVA operative, wore black pajamas, and was carrying a loaded grenade launcher when engaged by Kerry’s swift-boat. Yes, Kerry engaged him from behind and shot him in the back, but if I were you, you do not let an enemy operative CARRYING A GRENADE LAUNCHER turn around! Because when you do so is when you and your buddies around you get showered with shrapnel and most likely will see whatever happens to you miliseconds before you expire from this world.
Yes, Franken is leftist, but this is a factual article (and he backs it up with the real references) about how extensively the Kerry campaign had to debunk “The Loincloth Affair” during the 2004 campaign.
As far as you’re and we’re concerned, our current President dodged Vietnam by serving in what is a truly a badly trained joke- the Alabama Air National Guard.
…Yet while people like John Kerry and Albert Gore (a journalist who took enemy fire in an Engineering Corps) were on the front line fighting an equally pointless war (like Iraq is now, which is costing us billions we cannot afford,) to try and save a country from Communism (that it largely wished to embrace by large majority) and install “Western Democracy” on the whole northern front.
Yes, America will survive; I also love this land, but just from a counter-point perspective (of which there does not seem to be a lot here), the party you support, “Yankeemom”, has sure gotten us into ONE HELL OF A MESS the last 7 years in office and its last 12 or so years in majority power (from 1994, of which ended for you in early 2007.)
The signs of staggering gas prices, over 35,000 casualties in Iraq (note that this includes American troops KIA and those permanently incapacitated because they are missing eyes/limbs/etc), absolutely astounding food prices (coupled by high gas prices), absolutely out of control inflation, about 9 trillion in national debt to the People’s Republic of China, North Korea’s development of 6 thermonuclear warheads (with capability to hit their intended targets- Japan and South Korea,) while Bush was distracted by non-existant WMD in Iraq, and oh yes, Russia’s display of extremely frightening and very modern equipment last month in the first Victory Day Parade since the Soviet Era, has demonstrated our lackluster weakness and an ineptness of the current administration that will, thank god, be out of office come January.
Newt Gingrich had it best- “If we no longer do what we should and what the people want, then remove us from office.”
-That’s what happened. I’m not going to count my baby chicks before they hatch, and although the Presidential race looks neck-and-neck (with Obama only like 3 points ahead as of now), you may lose out, badly, in the 2008 Congressional election. Even Fox News and Rupurt Murdoch are predicting a Democrat run-over.

My mistake- I apologize for the name mistake.
They *interviewed* a Vietnamese villager named *Nguyen* when Ted Koppel went to talk to them. Nguyen was in his late 70’s and most of the villagers remembered the man that Kerry killed because he was a native of the village.
The NVA/VC operative’s name is Ba Thanth.
“No, this is not correct,” said Nguyen Thi Tuoi, 77, told ABC News. “He wore a black pajama. He was very strong. He was big and strong. He was about 26 or 27.”
