The Last (not so) Great Debate ~

UPDATE:

Joe the Plumber is under attack from the left.  Go here and here.  I don’t know what the laws are in Toledo.  In CA, you could work under a licensed plumber and not have a license yourself.  It may be for commercial work tho - you do need a license for that.

Anyhoo, Joe is now on the Obama minions’ (Democratic Underground - I will not link to them) radar - say a prayer or at least think good thoughts for him.  Then try to visualize an Obama presidency where nothing can be asked, said or thought negatively about The One.

Yep, I watched the McCain/Obama debate last night, as I have watched them all. I love how all the obamaniacs are writing about how cool and collected Obama was. Well, if that’s how they see being cool and collected, no wonder they are so confused about so many other things. To think he won that debate just goes to show how delusional those folks are. I guess I just don’t speak Obama-ese, cuz I didn’t understand 3/4 of what he was trying to say…but the man sure can filibuster!!

So it’s a good thing that Real Clear Politics has the transcript up here:

The Final Presidential Debate

(Neal Boortz has a good write up today)

I just wish they would have let Joe the Plumber debate them both!! (go here to see the video of Joe’s interview.) Now, having been the owners of a plumbing business in CA for several years, I know where Joe’s coming from. California is already way ahead of most of the country on spreading the wealth. We couldn’t afford employees nevermind giving them healthcare. We didn’t have healthcare for ourselves. We did pay a whole lot of taxes though because we made enough money to throw us up in that evil people tax bracket. On paper it sure looked like we were fleecing the folks but the reality was after all the taxes, insurance, workers comp insurance, etc etc we had to pay just to be in business, our net was far from our gross. If we had had employees, with paying them $18/hr, we would have had to charge clients $45/hr for our workers just to break even, what with all the insurance, employee taxes and Social Security benefits etc. See, what most people who don’t own a business don’t know about is overhead costs, with a lot of it coming from government regulations. You really have to be in the thick of it all to find out what owning a business actually entails. Non-business owning people, when they found out that our rates were $85/hr, thought we were living high on the hog. Not when damn near 2/3 of that went to suppliers, quarterly estimated taxes, liability insurance, auto insurance, workers comp (in case we needed day workers), license fees, etc.

Under Obama’s spread the wealth policies, Joe the Plumber will be even more screwed, whether the $250,000 no-tax cut off is net or gross. And Obama has not said which it is.

Another fallacy of Obama’s is that small businesses don’t make much more than $250,000/yr. According to the Small Business Administration, businesses can make millions and still be considered a small business. Tax them more and they will start laying off employees or at the very least, cutting hours.

I’ve always tried to support local Mom and Pop businesses with my business because I was raised by a local businessman and I know what one or two bad years can do to a small business. You always have to have a plan B in case you have some dry months and in the construction business, you always have slow times.

And Obama’s tax cuts for 95% of Americans? What about the part where 35-40% don’t pay taxes at all?

McCain: You know, when Sen. Obama ended up his conversation with Joe the plumber — we need to spread the wealth around. In other words, we’re going to take Joe’s money, give it to Sen. Obama, and let him spread the wealth around.

I want Joe the plumber to spread that wealth around. You told him you wanted to spread the wealth around.

The whole premise behind Sen. Obama’s plans are class warfare, let’s spread the wealth around. I want small businesses — and by the way, the small businesses that we’re talking about would receive an increase in their taxes right now.

Who — why would you want to increase anybody’s taxes right now? Why would you want to do that, anyone, anyone in America, when we have such a tough time, when these small business people, like Joe the plumber, are going to create jobs, unless you take that money from him and spread the wealth around.

I prefer to decide myself to whom and where I want to spread my “wealth” around.

McCain: Nobody likes taxes. Let’s not raise anybody’s taxes. OK?

Obama: Well, I don’t mind paying a little more.

Then go ahead, Senator! No one’s stopping you. But leave my money ALONE! It’s not yours to take from me! I don’t even know you, Sir! And I certainly did not, nor would I ever, vote for you.

Get over this class warfare thing! You made your nice income. I don’t see you taking a vow of poverty. Let others work hard and earn their nice income. I didn’t sign up to be an ATM machine. I choose my charities to support and I’m more than willing to pay taxes for infrastructure (I like nice roads and bridges), the defense of my country (in fact, I wish you all up there on the Hill would get your collective stuff together and pay our military what they are worth), and programs to help folks who bottomed out to get back on their feet (you know, that ‘teach a man to fish and he’ll never be hungry’ concept). But a generational welfare state just doesn’t do it for me and a whole lot of other hard working, doing the best they can, get up every morning, responsible people I know.

Oh, I could go through the whole debate but I’d be here until the next election, there’s so much that is so wrong with what Obama is proposing to do to this country. What it boils down to is that everything that needs fixing, his answer is to throw our money at it. And he seems to have no compunction about lying to make his point. (Sadly, McCain did not call him out on all the lies he told…there was a virtual goldmine out there!) But because there are too many voting age citizens in this country do not educate themselves on the issues, they have no idea that what he says is not backed by facts.

Before I get blasted by anyone for being All McCain, let me just say that I’m not. Lots to disagree with there too. But in the area of small business, I can only see Obama’s policies wreaking havoc in our economy and personal budgets.

My husband and I just started another business and we’d sure like to be able to make a go of it. If the Democrats have their way, and the Republicans keep backing down, the chances of doing so are much, much slimmer.

John McCain didn’t win the debate either.

Joe the Plumber did.
